The New York Times is reporting that Iraq will soon have a new civil administrator who will oversee Iraq's reconstruction. The article also discusses the debate over the past few weeks between the Department of Defense and the State Department over whom should administer Iraq. General Jay Garner is the Pentagon's man, but Bush has picked career diplomat L. Paul Bremer to oversee him. This is preceived as a win for State, who fought for a civilian to administer Iraq in the hopes that this move would improve the image of U.S. forces in Iraq. I am a bit concerned that Bremer is so closely associated with Kissinger and Associates, Henry Kissinger's outfit, but this is a definite improvement over having a strictly military presence in Iraq.
