Here's a quote, as reported by the New York Times, that is supposed to be in president Bush's speech tonight:
'"The liberation of Iraq is a crucial advance in the campaign against terror," the president says. "We have removed an ally of Al Qaeda, and cut off a source of terrorist funding. And this much is certain: No terrorist network will gain weapons of mass destruction from the Iraqi regime, because that regime is no more."'
Considering the various stories over the past few days about how easy it is to obtain weapons in Iraq I respectfully disagree with President Bush on this point. While it is technically true that no one will get NCB's from current Iraqi government, there is a plethora of conventional weapons available on the black market in Iraq, and these aren't just handguns and rifles. Unsaid, of course, is how no terrorist will get NCB's from anyone in Iraq because, er, the weapons aren't there... It is also true that the Iraqi Dinar has gone up in value against the dollar in Iraq over the last few days. Combined with the free flow of weapons, the U.S. has created a bonanza for any group to obtain weapons and quick money in Iraq.
