The resignation of Richard Perle, stemming in part from the recent scandal created by the Seymour Hersh article previously discussed at the Node, underscores a recurring theme of this administration's top staffers' inability to keep free from conflict of interest entanglements with big business. While one or two instances of this kind of chicanery may go unnoticed, it seems the Bush White House has a staffer resign every month or two under suspect circumstance(or do we forget Harvey Pitt). While those that have resigned are intriguing (Henry Kissinger included), what will ultimately prove the biggest thorn in Bush's political side are those that haven't, such as Christine Todd Whitman of the EPA and even the Vice-President for his role in mapping out the administration's energy policy and in (surprise) the War on Oil Rich Terrorism. The complicity the administration has shown to business interests will prove more costly than the WORT come 2004.
