It's a busy day, with all sorts of interesting things out on the wires. This New York Times article about the escalation of the war of words between the U.S. and Syria has an interesting final paragraph:
'In Jerusalem today, Brig. Gen. Yossi Kupperwasser, a senior Israeli intelligence official, told a parliamentary committee that Iraq may be hiding its chemical and biological weapons in Syria. "It is possible that Iraq transferred missiles and weapons of mass destruction into Syria," he said.'
Is the groundwork being laid to make an argument for attacking Syria and Iran? It would appear so, based on recent statements by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and the general "chatter" about Iranian and Syrian assistance to Iraq. Powell warned of "consequences" for Syria's actions in support of Iraq, and generally the U.S. has been testy about other military hardware transfers to Iraq (such as the tiff between the U.S. and Russia that got some press last week).
